Goto 望遠鏡開始加入自動導星作為標準配備,配合輔助目視附有自動對焦功能。
調焦筒使用形狀記憶合金,以電流準確控制焦點,消除電動機機械精度的影響。
I recently visited my engineering friends at a small development company in north Georgia to see what was in the works for this year. They described a device for a telescope that will greatly reduce the distortion caused by irregularities in the atmosphere. It is intended primarily for SCT and refractor telescopes.
The device design is taken from the Air Force laser missile defense system installed in a Boeing 747. This system uses two lasers to destroy an incoming missile. The first laser illuminates the missile and uses the returned image to calculate the distortion along the path. The information is applied to the back of a mirror directing the second kill laser to the target. The outgoing beam is distorted in a fashion whereby the atmosphere will bring it back to a focused spot suitable for missile destruction. The distortion mirror is being manipulated on the backside by an array of push/pull devices.
In the telescope version, the device is inserted in place of the traditional diagonal. The beam splitter is positioned in front and the distorter behind the mirror. The beam splitter in the first version is the traditional type, a partially silvered mirror set in the path at 45°. A second version is being considered using a clear glass plate with 1/4 of the surface coated as a full mirror in a pie shape. The disk is held in place by a mag-lev device and spun by peripherally wound motor windings. In this fashion, there is no axle across the image path and a full image is split off but only 1/4 of the time. The image is analyzed using a Raspberry Pi Linux embedded processor.
The mirror distorter is a 16x16 array of piezoelectric translators bonded to the back of the mirror in the diagonal portion. In the industrial world, they are called inch-worms and are used for very small and precise linear movement. These are driven by an Arduino processor so that the Raspberry can be dedicated to image processing. Preliminary test show that 16x16 may not be quite enough points of distortion so the plan is to go to 32x32.
This device is expected to sell for around $500 in it's initial phase but come down later to the $195 region. This will be especially valuable to the AP crowd. Further information can be obtained from Git-R-Dun Engineering in Budweisenheimer, GA.
