Hi everyone,
Some of you are members of our Yahoo discussion groups, and are aware that we have recently posted red/blue 3D CAD development images of POD MAX for the first time.
We weren't going to show much publicly until well into development, but have decided that these CAD screen shots will be helpful to those of you who are waiting to see if POD MAX is the right solution for your needs, sooner rather than later.
We've just posted a classified in Astromart with versions of the CADs. The text that goes along with them sums up the current situation pretty well, so I'll re-post it here. Links to the images follow the text.
If you've seen the first CAD shots shown of POD 8' back in '06, you know that in production it ended up looking almost exactly as was shown in our CAD shots.
Four years later we now present POD MAX 12.5' (3.9m). We've been working hard on it's development for some time. Our goal is to create the ultimate mid sized observatory. Designed primarily for astro photography and research. Automation, connectivity, and more by Kendrick Astro Instruments.
Here are some helpful specs:
The dome is 12.5' wide by about the same high (total ob height).
The walls are 6' 4" high, 5" thick double walls.
The door is 5' 6" tall. The Bays are about the same high.
The door itself is 32" wide, made of steel with a dead bolt lock (or two if you like). There can also be 2 doors
for outreach settings.
The dome is single walled, black lined, as are the Bays and walls. Ecomate insulation filling the walls as an option.
Modular design to lower shipping costs, ease of assembly, and upgrade as budget allows. Both in configuration and control.
Price TBD, but MUCH lower than existing solutions.
Development and testing will continue in '11, for production and deployment in '12. No deposit required to get in line now.
Pictured are 3 models of POD MAX, the standard MAX with 0 Bays, a MAX XL3 with 3 Bays, and a MAX XL6 with only 5 Bays showing. As well there are internal shots of Max in both educational/outreach, and private settings.
For scale the adult manikins are 5'9" and the smaller manikins are 3'6". The scope is a 16" SCT type closely resembling a Meade with latitude adjusted pier. Notice it looks kind of small in MAX, even with dew shield on.
The images are red/blue 3D, but can be viewed in 2D without 3D glasses. Numerous smaller details have been purposely omitted for privacy reasons.
We hope you enjoy these first publicly viewed development images of POD MAX. You are welcome to download them and share with fellow club members, or post in your astro blog, etc.
