南北極之旅

[社長]

我跟香港航天學會的會長雷先生認識，也間中有些合作關係，不時收到他的電郵，以下有一封值得分享：

2011年12月30日南北極回來，由二十四小時白晝的南極點，到長時間黑夜的北極圈，一切都好像不是那麼真，但卻就有這樣的事實，或許就是因為有童軍的「準備」令整個旅程都沒有太多的動人故事，有的就是多了一些寧靜和時間，讓人可以靜思其過，回顧一下走過的日子。

返回現實的鬧市，又要開始重投昔日的擠車擠人急步和噪音，懷緬冰雪奇緣之時，不如一起時光倒流，走進早前的白色世界。

The usual cruise to Antarctica (just visiting the peninsula, not going to the pole) takes more than 10 days. If I include the flights from Hong Kong, I need to add another 5 days. As a teacher, I will never have such a long holiday in Christmas or Chinese New Year.

A solution for me will be to take some air-cruise trips. Some of these only takes 7-8 days. One will fly from Chile to South Shelter Island, then get on a cruise for a few days before flying back to Chile. A possible trip will be next Chinese New Year, departing on 11 Feb 2013.

It is not an ideal itinerary. The Drake Passage, which we won't cross, is one that is worth experiencing. February is also a bit late for wildlife as many have gone off to the sea. But it seems to be the best I can do.

在香港老師已享有比一般工薪假期多了，但南極始終是太遙遠的地方。

對我來說這些天涯海角是目標之一，一些小國也是，亦更易到達。小學時在地理課上知道這些國家，便想過總有一天要看看，列支敦士登、盧森堡、聖瑪力諾都是：

David可以考慮另一目標：在撒哈拉沙漠尋找羅馬帝國的盡頭。

登珠峰最佳時間是每年5月及11月，都是上課時間，但你可以跟校長建議，把你的旅程每日實時直播，作為全校通識教育，那便有理由請代課老師代勞讓你動身了。但中間也有點風險，否則變成生命教育，到時要教育局派心理輔導專家到校幫手就不好了

Definitely Antarctica. I want my holiday to be more relaxed and less challenging.

Galapagos is best in around April. We never have a long enough holiday in that month. You are quite right to do it after retirement.

Wow, Pleiades is going to Antarctica with me. He is asking his friend also. It turns out that Antarctica is quite a popular destination! Finding a travel partner is much easier than my Iguazu Falls tour in Argentina.

今天在飛往西藏的航班上，也看到一篇為期10天，即遊輪來回的南極洲旅程，好像身邊不斷有訊息提醒我，什麼時間可以去一趟。

David不如計劃一下冬季去，可以拍拍拱極星流跡....
