社長 寫:15x50IS 的光學表現應該並非亮點,防震才是 (請指正),所以僅從規格看,15x這個倍率才是關鍵。
I haven't compared with the optical performance of Canon 15x50IS with other binoculars, but it is certainly good enough for me. I agree that IS the the main selling point. The convenience of having a high magnification binoculars without the need of tripod makes the set-up simply a joy to use.
I had used a cheap 25x100 binocular on tripod before. I personally like the 15x50 IS much more because of the feeling of having a better connection with the sky. As I said before, scanning the sky with a handheld binocular is much more natural to me than using a bino on tripod or telecope-binoviewer combo on mount. But it is a subjective thing.
The problem with using a handheld binocular is an educational one. It is more difficult to tell others how to find the object that I want them to see.
It is of course no problem to compare the performance of 15x50 IS with others on tripod. But I believe tripod ones must be really spectacular to let me give up the convenience of 15x50 IS.
I had also used Canon 18x IS binocular before but the magnification seems a bit too high that the IS mechanism cannot fully compensate for my hand shaking.
